Second edition; a second part followed in 1823. Bowring’s anthology, the first collection of Russian poetry in English, was first published earlier in the year; Alexander I was so pleased with the book that he sent Bowring a diamond ring in congratulation. This second edition is revised, with a new poem by Krylov and three more ‘national songs’.
