PRE-RAPHAELITES IN RUSSIA
Moskva.—S.-Peterburg. Kiev.—Odessa. Knigoizdatel’stvo Iu. I. Lepkovskago. [1910.]
8vo (190 × 141 mm), pp. 80; a few marks in the upper margin of p. 61, but a very good copy in the original illustrated boards, light soiling/rubbing only, old bookseller’s mark to rear cover.
First edition in Russian, published in the series ‘Khudozhestvennaia biblioteka’. Stylistically, the book copies exactly the English editions of Baldry’s books (‘Masterpieces in Colour’, c.1909); a copy of the one on Burne-Jones is offered with the present work.
WorldCat locates a sole copy, at Wisconsin; not found in COPAC. For the influence of the Pre-Raphaelites in Russia, see Rachel Polonsky, English Literature and the Russian Aesthetic Renaissance, p. 130ff.
