BY WILLIAM CARRICK?
[RUSSIA.] An album of photographs.
Russia,  c.1870s.
4to (323 × 225 mm), 38 albumen prints, of varying sizes, mounted on 16 card leaves; some images faded along the margins, and some spotting, but generally very good; cloth guards and spine, worn.
The album opens with four scenes of Stockholm, but the rest of it is Russia: St Petersburg and environs (St Isaac’s, the Strelka, Winter Palace, Bronze Horseman, Palace Square, Peterhof), Moscow (Kremlin, the Tsar Bell, St Basil’s), and Russian ‘types’. While none of the images matches with those reproduced by Felicity Ashbee and Julie Lawson (William Carrick, ‘Scottish Masters’ series, 1987), the style and content of some, and the numbering used in the lower corners, point towards Carrick, or perhaps someone copying his work.
